Adventures...

Jessica is spending the night with Grandma & Grandpa Kimball. She has had her bag packed for a week now. This morning when I came down for breakfast her bag, and pillow and blanket were waiting by the door. She was so cute in trying to talk me out of taking her to preschool and straight to Grandma & Grandpa's. Grandma was sweet and wanted her this afternoon so they could have plenty of time together :) We (Tanner, Taylor and I) dropped her off and went to run some errands. I had the double stroller and loaded up both boys. I needed to go to the Distribution Center to get a few things for YWs. I talked to Taylor before we went in and told him that if he was really good and stayed in the stroller that he could earn a treat. I had him repeat back to me what was at stake and how he needed to act, just so there were no communication gaps:) We got in the store and found everything we needed. The problem began when I stopped to pay, as then the stroller wasn't moving... he jumped out lickety split and was running from me hiding down the aisles. I finally made it to him and buckled him back up reminding him about his treat. He apologized profussely and asked for one more chance. Sure I thought, this time he'll stay put. Yes, I too am amazed that I can still be conned into these things. I turned around to sign for our purchases and he was off. I caught him before he could get too far and put him back in the stroller and let him know he wasn't getting that treat after all. Bad idea. He started screaming, "You NOT pretty," over and over. I was trying to ignore him, as all the other patrons were trying to hide their smiles. We finally made it back to the car where he called me every unkind word he knows-- "dumb" and "poopy" ---Thanks Jess. We did have a good conversation on the way home about being a good helper... and by golly it worked! for the first five minutes we were home :) I called later to tell Jessie good night and found out she and Grandma were at the park, that she wanted to show Grandma something she learned on the monkey bars. Thank goodness for wonderful Grandma's. She had tried to show me this morning and was so excited about it, but... we were going to be late for preschool, so I put it off and said she could show me later... Kids are amazing little beings, one minute you can't wait for them to grow up, the next you wish you could stop time. I wish I could have that minute back and watch her go across the monkey bars. Thank you Grandma for making her day special!!

aww that last part almost made me cry! I know exactly what you mean - I am often thinking on hard day "why can't yougrow up and learn to take care of yourself already?" but I know it will completely break my heart when they do! Good post:) - Sara xx

I know what you mean. Grace has taught herself to ride her bike. She kept asking me to watch. She just kept falling, so I told her I'll be right back. I had to switch the laundry, and wouldn't you know that would be the time she did it. I often feel I need three of me! It makes me sad to think of my kids getting big, even though it is nice they are more independant.

I had to laugh out loud at your story with Taylor. I can so relate. Love the part about Jess too. Don't these little girls just seem so big. I have been saying to Ben ever since Avary's party. Doesn't she look big? As if one day would change her. They do grow up too quickly. Love the barbie and dog-thanks so much!

I loved your story...first, what awesome grandparents?! Second, I think our kids have so much in common, Madi and Jess are such girly girls and Taylor and Ethan are such mischievous boys! I can totally relate to your story at the Distribution Center (love the no treat reaction). And you are so right about putting things off and then wishing you could have those moments back. Motherhood is such a rollercoaster!
