What a Night...

As I was coming upstairs last night, I heard Jessica screaming "mom", I ran into her room to find her in a heap on her floor. I scared her coming into her room and she screamed like I have never heard her scream before. I tried to calm her down, but she climbed into bed and laid down crying hysterically. I thought it was due to me inadvertently scaring her, so I climbed in bed next to her to snuggle her. Its a good thing too, because I noticed her pillow had blood on it, I thought maybe she had bloodied her nose... nope huge gaping gash in her head. She had fallen out of bed and hit her head on her book shelf. What was crazy was how much blood there was. Her hair and face were covered. This picture is after I had cleaned her up quite a bit...
So it was off to the Emergency Room. Note: Do not attempt going to Primary Children's Hospital thinking that the doctors will know how to relate to children (which I'm sure they do wonderfully) ...we walked in to the ER and found at least 25-30 people waiting there! Thank goodness the U is next door, we hurried ourselves over there and we were the only ones in the waiting room. And we were shown right to a room. Though, it still took two hours before they were able to get to sewing her up. The doctor explained, that he's never been able to explain, why there is a midnight rush every night in the ER. Enter Kimballs...
Jess was extremely brave. They had to stick her several times with lidocaine before it was numb enough to start. You could tell it was killing her, but she never cried. Mom did. She laid perfectly still for the doctor to stitch her up. He said he's never had a patient as good as Jessie, that she was better than the men who come in for stitches! (Apparently men, are suppose to be tougher than 6 year old little girls?...)
Jess this evening before bed
My sweet little angel. She was so cute this morning as we were getting her ready for school. She was so worried about kids asking her what happened, and she didn't want to tell them she had fallen out of bed.
Right after she fell out and we explained that she was going to have to have stitches she was crying and crying that she didn't want stitches. So being the great mother that I am, I ran downstairs and grabbed my Kindergarten picture...
Where if you look close enough over my right eye, I had stitches for pictures :) I told her how I had been running down the stairs and my little brother Ryan was running up the stairs, we collided, and as he has a head of granite, I was the one left with stitches.
I volunteer in her class on Tuesdays and when I got there today, I asked her teacher how she was doing as we had gotten home from the ER @ 3:00am this morning! She said she wasn't her usual self, and she attributed that to Jessica bumping her head when she ran into her brother as she was running down the stairs?! So funny!! Apparently, since she didn't want to tell anyone she fell out of bed, she used my stitches story as a cover, though she had assured everyone she hadn't needed stitches :) Note the bright pink Barbie band-aid she's sporting?... she didn't want anyone to see her stitches or ask about them. Our band-aid selection is clear, Barbie, or Diego. She was sure they would be able to see the stitches thru the clear band-aids, so she opted for bright pink Barbie!! What a cutie! She's already started the count down to 5 more days, when her stitches will have dissolved and her cut will have magically disappeared. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there!

Oh my goodness, poor Jessi!!! I wish I could just give you a huge hug right now for being so brave! How scary that must have been for you and Phil, Rach! I'm so glad she is doing okay - maybe some day she will be proud of her little war wound:) I remember feeling that way about the scar on my foot when I was a kid - but then again I am a little strange!

Holy cow...that will wake you up?! Poor thing. It's nuts how long ER's take, even when it looks like no one else is there, and it's torture for a little kid. Sounds like she was pretty darn tough.

I feel so bad for her. Was she asleep? That would be a rude awakening! Give her loves from us.

my! I can't believe that! Who'd have thought a book shelf could be so dangerous. Ryan once fell off his bunk bed and hit the air vent, luckily no damage, but a bruise. All these things we have to think about as parents. Fast thinking on your part! It's always cool to be like mom! Glad she is on the mend!

Ouch! She is so brave!! I remember when Jaydon had a little mishap and had to have stitches in his forehead when he was 3, I was a mess! He was the strong one!
I linked to you from Larae's blog. :)

Oh, poor little thing, I can't believe how brave she was! I bet it was as hard on you as it was on her!
