Mr. State Delegate

Phil had the privilege of having lunch with Orrin Hatch today.

Phil and I attended our local Caucus meeting a couple weeks ago.  We were interested in learning more about the whole process and getting more involved politically, locally.  I teased Phil on the way there that I would nominate him to be a State Delegate.  He replied that he didn't think he was interested, just wanted to see how the whole process works.  A gentleman from our ward was our Caucus Chair.  The voting began with Caucus Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, etc.  The Caucus Chair nominated Phil for Caucus Chair...Phil gave a lovely speech and said he would be happy to serve where elected, but had more of a desire to be a State Delegate. This was news to me...  He was then nominated for State Delegate along with 3 other gents.  After hearing each of them speak and give us an idea on their views and whom they were leaning towards voting for, I was so grateful Phil threw his hat in the ring.  It was a very interesting process and made me glad we decided to get involved as two of the gentlemen had opposing political views from Phil and the other nominee.  Realizing that if we wouldn't have been there that there was a possibility that our views may not have been represented at the Caucus primary, and the election could be very different in November for Senate, and State offices, made me grateful we got involved.  Phil and the nominee who shared his views on politics were elected as State Delegates from our District.
It has been fun to see Phil eating up all the information he's been receiving from all the different delegates for Senator, Govenor, and Congressman for our district.  I definitely feel much more informed on politics this year and have a new respect for being educated about the issues.
Phil will be attending the State Caucus meeting on April 21st.

I think it is wonderful that he is involved in politics. We need people with values and integrity who are willing to get involved. Good job!
